Description
Niagara Falls City Police Chief of Detectives Ernest Palmer has a law enforcement record impressive by any standard. After joining the force in April of 1982, Palmer rose quickly through the ranks, from patrolman to head of the narcotics division by 1989, to deputy chief in 1996, and police superintendent in 1998. In his spare time, he took the part-time position of chief of police in Youngstown, hoping to see for himself how small-town and rural policing differed from what he had learned on the mean streets of the Falls. His decision to run for the office of Niagara County sheriff seems almost like a natural progression. He's gotten a taste of electoral politics in his adopted home of Lewiston, where he's run successfully twice for a seat on the town council. But Palmer maintains that a number of serious law enforcement and public safety issues, rather than any overarching political ambition, were at the root of his decision to become the county's top cop.
